Carroll High School competed at the state Mock Trial tournament Thursday and Friday, March 31st - April 1st in Des Moines at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium Events Center. There were 32 teams in the state tournament from all across Iowa, from all school sizes and divisions, with each team made up of 8 – 10 students from grades 9-12.
Carroll’s Mock Trial team competed against Cedar Rapids Xavier, Pocahontas and Saydel. The team lost the few two rounds by a narrow margin and won the last round against Saydel High School.
Honorable mention All State honors went to Carroll attorney Adrienne Wiley with one nomination. Also Carroll’s Sydney Bellinghausen and Adrienne Wiley earned an honorable mention All State nomination for outstanding witness performances. Other Carroll team members were Chase Madden, Maia Boell, Katelyn McFarland, Lincoln Neu, Daniel Harrison, Elizabeth Chase and Sophia Tidgren. Carroll High School Mock Trial is coached by teacher Kelly Borchers and assisted by attorneys Eric Neu and Amber Haberl.
