Students in Mrs. Kaufman’s Biology class have been working on projects relating to structure of DNA, protein synthesis, and meiosis. The students were asked to make a model of the DNA structure including nitrogen bases, phosphate groups, deoxyribose, hydrogen and covalent bonds. The students also were asked to use materials they found at home such as pipe cleaners, cardboard, popsicle sticks, and foam. A key with all parts of the DNA labeled was also required. They also created monsters using mutations to represent protein synthesis. The students rolled a dice to decide what was going to be different about their monster such as different colored eyes, no eyes, a huge monster, or even no mutations could have been rolled. Lastly, the students were asked to create a children's book explaining the process of Meiosis 1 and Meiosis 2. Stay tuned for more on the children’s books!
