The students in Mrs. Boes’ English 11 class were challenged to gather information from a specific time period that may have been overlooked and to tell their story. The students were assigned to groups and were to include primary and secondary sources to gather details about their topic or family. The topics could range from the first people in Carroll county, or even a study of their family history! Photographs, newspapers, speeches, journal articles, and diary entries were all sources they could use to gather the information they needed to complete the project.
After gathering all of the details, the students were to write a paper releasing the information they found. The group was to work together to piece the essay together. The students were then assigned to present the information they gathered to the class. They could do this by making a short document, a visual presentation, or a short script to perform a re-enactment!
The project linked here took the class through the life of The Macomber family, the very first family to be buried in the Carroll Cemetery!
